Hideki Fujiwara is now the president of Carbon Neutral Resources Laboratory (Carboneut) on consultancy basis. He retired Nippon Paper Group on June 20, 2013. He had been the Director and General Manager for R&D at Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. from 2005 to 2007 and led 200 researchers as the head of the research team. Hideki Fujiwara moved to Nippon Paper-Pak Co., Ltd. (currently Nippon Paperfs Paper-Pak Division), a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Paper and manufactures paper liquid packages from 2007 to 2009. He had been the Managing Director at Nippon Paper-Pak and in charge of product development at its head office as well as product development center and a mill manager of one of Nippon Paper-Pakfs printing and converting mills. Hideki Fujiwara had been the Director at Nippon Paper Unitec Co Ltd, which is a group company of Nippon Paper Industries Co. Ltd. and provides the technical support services on paper manufacturing engineering for the group from 2009 to 2013. Concurrently he served to The University of Tokyo Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Science as Visiting Professor from Sep 2011 to Mar 2012. He served to the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand as Visiting Professor in March 2013 and had a course on gPigment Coating and Printingh. This project in AIT was supported by Japanese Government. Hideki Fujiwara is still active to participate in several worldwide meetings and share information on new R&D.
Hideki Fujiwara started his professional career as a pulp & paper business expert at Jujo Paper Co., Ltd. (former entity of Nippon Paper before its merger with three competitors in 2003) just after he received his Masterfs Degree in Applied Chemistry at Keio University in 1975. He studied paper science as a visiting scientist at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, USA from 1985 to 1986. Based on studies done in the USA, he received his PhD degree from Keio University. His areas of expertise include research and development on the pulp and paper manufacturing with the strength in coating technology.
Hideki Fujiwara is involved in some paper industry associations including TAPPI (Technical Association for Pulp and Paper Industry, USA) as a TAPPI fellow. He is only one active TAPPI fellow from Asia, now. He has won several prizes in the area of Pulp, Paper and Printing. He received Noma Prize (Japanese Prize for Book, Publishing and Distribution) in 1999, and he was the first winner from Pulp &Paper Industry in Japan. He received TAPPI Coating Division Technical Award and Charles W. Engelhard Medallion and Honorarium in 2005 and he is first and only one winner from Asia. Currently he is the Senior Advisor of the Marcus Wallenberg Prize, Sweden. Before the Senior Advisor, he had been the ambassador from Asia to the Marcus Wallenberg Prize's Selection Committee. He has been invited to the Marcus Wallenberg Prize Ceremony and Banquet from 2005 and he is only one invitee from Asia. He is a member of TAPPI International Research Management Committee and had served as Vice Chairman and Secretary. He is only one active member from Asia, now.
